Serving Global Markets
Building a Better World for Emerging Populations
While Core remains a significant contributor to domestic productivity in the United States, the coal we mine increasingly supports our planet’s growing population, continued urbanization and ongoing economic development, helping to lift millions of people worldwide out of poverty.
We believe the long-term utilization of high-Btu coal is essential to providing affordable and reliable electricity in emerging regions—that it’s a key enabler of global prosperity—and that all societies have a moral right to realize the immense benefits of carbon-based resources as a source of power, a feedstock for essential infrastructure and a proven driver of economic development. We believe denying these populations affordable energy and materials comes with severe ethical consequences.
Advancing Progress Overseas
With roughly 774 million people globally still without access to electricity[2], the need to harness and process rich reserves of coal is critical. In fact, among the world’s most populous nations, China and India, their combined coal consumption accounted for approximately 70% of world demand in 2023.[3] In human terms, the roughly 2.8 billion people living in these countries enjoy a higher standard of living today, thanks in part to our efforts. And Core Natural Resources helps to advance many other countries.
Core Shipping Operations
To realize our commitment to overseas markets, Core Natural Resources owns and operates one of the largest coal export terminals on the Eastern Seaboard. Our Baltimore shipping operation has a stated export capacity of 20 million tons annually. Core also holds an ownership interest in a second East Coast shipping terminal, as well as strategic access to ports on the West Coast and Gulf of Mexico.

In every decision we make, along with the subsequent actions we take, Core employees seek to operate our business in a manner that exceeds the high expectations of fellow employees, our business partners, the public we serve, industry regulators, the communities in which we live and operate and, of course, our shareholders.
Safety
Core Natural Resources holds an absolute belief that nothing is more important than the safety and health of our employees and neighbors. We remain committed to continuously working toward a goal of zero life-altering accidents in the workplace. We maintain that a work environment with zero incidents should be normal and expected, and that any accident is uncharacteristic and inconsistent with our values. Our standard is striving to operate at a best-in-class safety performance level that always outpaces industry averages.
Sustainability
Core Natural Resources defines sustainability as the creation of lasting human progress that both benefits and balances environmental, economic and societal goals. To reach our environmental/social/governance (ESG) objectives, we seek to develop our assets in ways that facilitate safe construction, ensure permit compliance, minimize environmental impact, promote positive post-operation land use, protect biodiversity and aquatic resources and engage meaningful mitigation strategies, as needed.
Continuous Improvement
Core Natural Resources embraces the fundamental need to continuously innovate and welcome change. This mindset permeates our entire organization, in the office, in the field and underground. Every day, this belief system translates into concrete policy and operational actions, including our training and communications, proactively identifying best-in-class processes and methods, maintaining a culture of transparency and reinforcing our values of integrity and accountability.
Our approach to sustainability and environmental stewardship is embodied in our love of the outdoors where our employees both work, play and relax. In close partnership with regulatory agencies, we continue to invest in land reclamation and water restoration projects. Our emissions mitigation efforts continue to go beyond our compliance obligations. Our commitment to the communities where we live and operate is underscored by a genuine adherence to ethical business practices and our guiding principles.
Our History & Heritage
A Merger of Equals
Core Natural Resources was established in January of 2025 as a merger of equals between Arch Resources in St Louis, Missouri and CONSOL Energy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 2023, before joining forces, Arch and CONSOL together sold approximately 101 million tons of coal to steelmaking, industrial and power-generation customers. Their combined 2023 revenues were approximately $5.7 billion and combined adjusted earnings (EBITDA) was approximately $1.8 billion.
Both CONSOL Energy and Arch Resources share a proud and long heritage as innovative leaders in the U.S. mining industry. With Arch’s focus on metallurgical coal and CONSOL’s long history of providing vital thermal coal to the energy industry, their combined product offerings are both complementary and diverse. Perhaps, most importantly, they are essential to our modern way of life.
CONSOL Energy
CONSOL and its predecessors have been mining coal since 1864, powering the nation with affordable, abundant, reliable domestic energy, while creating family-sustaining jobs and keeping our nation competitive in the global marketplace. With over 160 years of adapting to market trends and industry needs, CONSOL is no stranger to change. Now as Core Natural Resources, we have once again successfully evolved and now serve the resurgent power generation demand driven by artificial intelligence (AI), data centers and electric vehicle (EV) expansion. As the world moves steadily closer to a lower-carbon economy, Core is positioned to help satisfy the growing demand for both coal and a variety of other minerals required by the renewable energy transition.
Arch Resources
Arch Resources was the second-largest supplier of coal in the United States and operator of mines in the Mid-Atlantic and Central U.S. regions prior to the merger. Arch Resources responsibly mined and processed a variety of metallurgical coals since its formation in 1997 with the merger of Ashland Coal and Arch Mineral Corporation. It then expanded its presence into the Western U.S. through acquisitions of coal producers in Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Montana, making Arch Resources, at that time, one of the leading producers of carbon-based resources in the nation.
The merger of Arch Resources and CONSOL Energy into Core Natural Resources holds the promise of bringing even more meaningful benefits to emerging societies around the world, while also achieving greater efficiencies, market reach and sustainability achievements.
WHERE COAL COMES FROM
Stored naturally in the Earth’s crust for millions of years, the coal we mine and make available to the world is rich with carbon, one of the fundamental elements of the periodic table. Essential for the continued existence of organic life on Earth, carbon is found in all living organisms.
In fact, coal and the valuable carbon it contains originate from ancient plant life that lived in swampy forests over a 150 million years ago. This plant life flourished as a direct result of solar energy and the carbon-based process of photosynthesis. In science, this biological process is called the carbon cycle. In turn, this carbon-rich plant matter was then subjected to intense geological forces from being buried under layers of rock and earth for thousands of centuries. Over this time, heat and immense pressures transformed this organic plant life into the sedimentary rock we call coal. You might think of carbon-rich coal as a massive battery storing ancient energy from the sun deep underground. Yet, this is just the beginning of coal’s incredible journey.
The extraordinary value to humanity stored in these natural carbon resources is immeasurable, but its value isn’t inherent only in the raw material. Coal’s immense contributions to society are linked to its usefulness—to the products and goods humans create with it. This is the true story of coal.
At Core, we believe the ultimate value of resources is linked to the effort that discovers and obtains them—that it’s through human labor that coal is lifted up and shaped into something of value—that resources come with a choice closely connected to our values as a society—and that this responsibility to choose is an acknowledgement of our moral purpose in life.
